David Byrne - "Everybody Laughs"

David Byrne has announced, Who is the Sky?, his first new studio album since 2018's American Utopia. The lead single is called "Everybody Laughs."

The last album from David Byrne was American Utopia in 2018. That album inspired a sensational Broadway residency which was then turned into an HBO special directed by Spike Lee. Earlier this year, Byrne hinted that a new record was coming and today he's announced the album and shared its lead single. "Everybody Laughs" sounds like a classic David Byrne track, almost to a predictable extent, with bubbly melodies and buoyant rhythms that give it his typical bounce, making it nearly unmistakable to have come from anyone else. Still, Byrne's ability to nail his particular style time and time again continues to be a bit of a thrill and surely hasn't worn out its welcome and the high spirited energy is still an effective tool in his songwriting skill set. He's been giving us music for 50 years and his ability to remain true to his core sound while never becoming dull or over done is amazing and something we should celebrate in the moment.

Who is the Sky? is out September 5.
