Last year, Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear) shared the single "Defense" and vinyl copies included the b-side "Virginia Tech." Earlier this year, Panda Bear released his latest full-length record Sinister Grift. It's one of 2025's best records and today Lennox has made the track "Virginia Tech" available on streaming services as well. While the rest of the album channels more tropical vibes by way of Bossanova or even Calypso, "Virginia Tech" feels more inline with Animal Collective's best known work of sample collages and more intense rhythms. There are still the more springy notes that appear on his most recent work, but it's easy to understand why this was was reserved and kept off the full-length. A lot of Lennox's newer material has focused a lot on full band sounds, but this one feels a bit more like Panda's work circa Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper. There are heavier electronics throbbing away on this one while other buoyant riffs pop up and it still has the playful nature you'd expect from Noah. The track also features his Animal Collective bandmate Deakin as well as production from Oneohtrix Point Never.
