In the three years since the last album from Big Thief, the epic double album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, the band has become a trio following the departure of bassist Max Oleartchik and each of the remaining members have released solo albums. Now, as they gear up for a big fall tour, the band has announced Double Infinity, their latest record and shared the recent live staple "Incomprehensible." Featuring conversational lyrics from Adrienne Lenker, the track has a gliding melody, easy and gentle, while still capturing a lot of the spontaneous magic that the band has worked so long to perfect. There's a subtle, steely twang and shuffling rhythms that move the song along at a gentle pace. The track flows with an underlying sparkle and the more you listen, small details emerge to showcase the band's ability to work in little nuances to give the track an extra shine. It's serene return for the band, one full of their delightful folk sound washed through a majestic filter that puts their spell on the tune, turning it into a glowing gem full of intrigue and wonder.
Double Infinity is out September 5.
