Neneh Cherry has tapped Robyn to cover her legendary maximal pop banger "Buffalo Stance" as part of a covers project that will be released later this year.
If you're not already familiar with Neneh Cherry's '80s club-banger "Buffalo Stance," do yourself a favor and get acquainted immediately. Cool. Now that you've heard the revved-up, dance-rap classic, you can take a minute to indulge in Robyn's new cover. It seems like a logical move. One Swedish pop star covering the work of another, both of whom happen to be icons in their own right. However, Robyn takes an unexpected twist with her remaking of the classic and gets some additional help courtesy of Mapei. On her version, Robyn slows thinks down to a dream-like tempo. This is smooth and sensual, more like a comedown vs the substance-fueled original. The other interesting hook here is that Robyn splits the duties with Mapei with with the former providing soft, ethereal vocals and the later blazing through the raps. This isn't going to keep you on the dance floor until the early hours of the morning, but it's still ready to put you in a trance so you can glide into the ether. Who's looking good today? Robyn, Mapei, and Neneh are looking (and sounding) good in every way.
