Cloud Nothings - "Death Keeps Me Alive"

Cloud Nothings have announced a new, metal-inspired, album due in January.

In nine albums over the course of fifteen years, Cloud Nothings have ranged from poppy indie rock tunes towards heavier, post-hardcore styles that, in my opinion, really peaked with their 2012 sophomore release Attack on Memory, which was produced by the late, great Steve Albini. The band has remained consistent over the years, releasing new music at a regular clip and today the band announced that their next installment will hit us in January 2027. This time, the band has looked towards metal and other heavy guitar music as their latest source of inspiration, moving further away from their more straightforward sounding guitar rock music. It's not totally new territory for the band, but lead single "Death Keeps Me Alive" reinforces that claim with bruising enthusiasm and pushing their sound towards a much heavier and intense spectrum than we've heard before, culminating in something close to black metal, a far reach from their early days, but a solid reminder that growth can occur at any time in a career.

What Kind of Hell Did You Survive? is out January 27.
