After leaving Music Hall of Williamsburg on Tuesday night, I couldn't help but think that I had just seen two artists who were about to experience their big break. Today, Star Moles (the opening act from the night before) announced that she has signed with Dead Oceans (Phoebe Bridgers' record label) and that a reissue plus a proper vinyl release of her latest album, this year's excellent Highway to Hell, would be on the way. At the show, Star Moles played a new song called "Born Again" and today that song is out for the rest of the world to hear (it will also be included on the new reissue as a bonus track). On the track, Emily Moales (the primary songwriter of what was a solo project that has blossomed into a full band) sounds as grand as ever, her voice still her not-so secret weapon that commands attention with its magnetic pull, as she keeps the vibes of the album rolling with the striking piano and a glimmering chorus. Moales has been releasing music under the moniker Star Moles for quite some time in the DIY space, but now she's leveling up and her big break feels even closer than ever before.
