When Kai Slater isn't playing in his excellent post-punk group Lifeguard, you can probably find him fronting his other group, the jangly power-pop outfit Sharp Pins. Slater is a crucial figure in the burgeoning Hallogallo scene from Chicago and with songs like "Saturday Sun," it's easy to see why he's kind of a big deal for certain music lovers. Taking undeniable hooks and pairing them with buoyant melodies and temperate grooves, he can seemingly churn out these wonderfully crafted tunes at a rapid rate and "Saturday Sun" is just another glowing example of Slater doing exactly what he does best. This bright and balmy tune is a real gem and one that hits with the sparkle of a songwriter deeply in the pocket and flexing his growing skills.
