At the end of August, Dinosaur Jr will release their thirteenth LP. It'll be the ninth record attributed to the band's core, classic line-up and their sixth since reuniting as a trio in 2005. "Blowin' Up," the second single from the forthcoming record and it's one of two tracks fronted by bassist Lou Barlow. While J is the usual frontman of the group and his sizzling guitar work a mainstay of their primal sound, this Barlow-driven track is more of a mid-temp jam that is still big on the band's walls of fuzz, but this one slows things down just a bit and settle into a righteous groove as Lou shares his dismay on the state of the world with us. "Nothing quite as bad as a bored edge lord / the dreaming and the scheming get so dark" he bemoans as we're forced to sit and reflect on just how much a nightmare we seem to be living through each and every day. Lou's fed up and who can blame him? In such upsetting times, it's great to have Dinosaur Jr rock us through the struggle.
There Near is out August 28.
