On Friday, Jack White released his latest album Frozen Charlotte and on Sunday he was playing the new tunes to a sold-out Brooklyn Paramount for the second night in a row.
In 2024, Jack White started to slip his new album No Name into unsuspecting customers' bags at his Third Man Record Store. Before long, he was announcing last-minute gigs across the country before officially dropping the album and making it available at physical record shops. That album marked a return to form so to speak for White. Not to say that Jack's ever detoured too far from his signature sound, but after releasing Lazaretto he fumbled around for a bit trying to add in some electronics to his electric blues stomp on Boarding House Reach and the split personalities of Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive suggested that for perhaps the first time in his career, White's abundance of music was starting to feel a bit too much. No Name found White back in the pocket, his dirty rock and roll licks reignited with a newfound strength that he hadn't displayed in years. Frozen Charlotte is the proof that No Name wasn't just a one-off, White is still riding that high and his live show is as brilliant as ever. As he has been since hitting the road in support of No Name, White is backed by Patrick Keeler on drums, Dominic Davis on bass, and Bobby Emmett on keys and the trio lines up behind him to give him the space he needs to shred away and show the crowd exactly what he does best. Ripping straight into "That's How I'm Feeling," White paced the stage as he slashed away at the rocking blues banger with total vigor, as if he was on a mission to conquer the crowd and lead them into battle. "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" was another ripper that Jake tore into with swift and striking rhythms. Each track was met with stunning determination, White attacking it like he was possessed, unleashing solo after solo of high flying electric guitar mayhem. His playing is astounding and he takes every opportunity to show it off to the crowd, switching up guitars in the middle of numbers and continuing solos from one instrument to the next. Roaring into "Broken Boy Soldiers," White unearthed the Raconteurs number with serious swagger and the band laid into it with serious passion as well. While "Neighbors" closes out his latest album, it was inserted into the middle of the set list and made for another prime setting for him to swap out one axe for another as he laid into another tingling solo. Dusting off "I'm Slowly Turning Into You," was a stellar hit, the stuttering riff making the crowd pump their fists in the air as he lit up the room with another crushing solo. "Carolina Drama" was another great Raconteurs hit that brought the house down for the end of the first set and before you knew it, the band was back for an encore the kicked off with a barn-burning take on "Lazaretto" that sizzled with raw power and white hot passion. White was in full command all night long, making the nearly two-hour set the prime setting for him to put his full skills on display for all to witness and admire with relentless enthusiasm. As he tore into the notorious riff of "Ball and Biscuit," the room burst into a state of pure elation. Already an absolutely astounding showcase of unbelievable talent, this clearly took the cake as the night's most impressive playing of the night that could've gone on forever. On White's new song "Derecho Demonico," he states that he never starts something he can't finish. For a brief stint, it seemed like White's career could become questionable, but these last few years have found him back in his prime form and he seems far from finished.
