Al Green - "I Found a Reason" [Velvet Underground cover]

Soul legend Al Green has a new covers EP out today and included is the Velvet Underground's "I Found a Reason."

Al Green needs no introduction so I'll go right ahead and get to the good stuff. A few years ago, he dropped a stupendous take on Lou Reed's iconic "Perfect Day," giving it a new sense of joy and serenity with his stellar croon and gorgeous rasp. Today, he's back with an EP that includes the Reed cover as well as another Lou tune, this one from his time in the Velvet Underground. "I Found a Reason" is a phenomenal VU song that stripped away a lot of the noise and feedback from their early work and added some pastel melodies into the mix. A delirious love song about finding joy, love, and that reason to keep on living. It feels especially poignant at the moment and Al really takes us to the heavens on this one. Green not only does the track justice, but makes you hear it again in a whole new light. Sharp orchestration, spellbinding electric keys, and his unmistakable voice take the song to new heights and makes it feel like this one could've actually been the Velvets covering Green all this time.
