Under the moniker Blue Lake, Jason Dungan has built his own instruments to help bring his sonic visions to life. This time around, his early demos have blossomed into full tracks with lush, detailed arrangements from his band members and together they've created something that is still acoustic, but pulses with a vibrant, electric energy. "Cut Paper" is the lead single from the upcoming album The Animal and it is a richly detailed track that captures the weight of the full band behind him to give us something that still mesmerizes with subtle nuances, but on a much grander scale. Embracing the wider sonic scope that comes with the addition of more musicians in the mix, the track unfurls with relative ease as hypnotic finger picking blends with soft percussions, making for warm textures and even a sense of comfort. It's a wholesome and welcoming sonic palette, one that invites you into the fold and allows you to fully immerse yourself in the meditative, pleasing sound.
The Animal is out October 3.
