The British jazz ensemble Kokoroko have shared their second single of 2020. The exuberant "Baby Ayoola" is sublime celebration of life.
According to the group's Bandcamp, "'Baba Ayoola' was written as a tribute to the grandfather of the band’s alto saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi and is 'an invitation to celebrate life.'" Led by vocal harmonies from the group's front women, the track flourishes with instinctive rhythms, flashing horns, and steady grooves. Their blend of West African vibes with a soulful touch elevates this track to a higher level, one that accentuates their flair for modern jazz with rich context and impeccable layers of depth and funk. A wonderful celebration indeed!
