Run the Jewels - "walking in the snow"

Killer Mike and El-P, the duo known as Run the Jewels, have released their fourth record a few days early. Stream it and obtain your copy for free now.

There is a lot to unpack on the latest album from hip-hop powerhouse Run the Jewels, but an early standout on the record comes halfway through the album on the track "walking in the snow" (which finds them reuniting with Gangsta Boo!). Despite the lyrics being written in the Fall of 2019 (according to El), they resonate with the current state of chaos in America like most would predict. "And everyday on evening news they feed you fear for free / And you so numb you watch the cops choke out a man like me / And 'til my voice goes from a shriek to whisper, "I can't breathe" / And you sit there in the house on couch and watch it on TV / The most you give's a Twitter rant and call it a tragedy / But truly the travesty, you’ve been robbed of your empathy." Killer Mike is sharp and direct on this one, holding nothing back as he speaks his anger and frustration on the climate in our country. This record is another call to arms and there are countless lyrics on it that capture the state of America in our current crisis. Things are scary and tensions are escalating. It's hard not to imagine the words here becoming chants at protests and hopefully they keep people motivated for justice. Keep your voices loud, keep safe, and keep running the jewels.
