Silk Fence is a New York–based instrumental electro-acoustic trio between three longtime friends and collaborators—Arian Shafiee, Booker Stardrum, and Justin Frye. They've now announced their debut album and their first single, "(A)RT."
Featuring Arian Shafiee (of Guerilla Toss, etc.) on electric guitar, Booker Stardrum (SML, etc.) on drums and percussion, and Justin Frye (PC Worship, etc.) on double bass and tapes, the band Silk Fence has stated that they're not a
new band, but today they've announced that their debut album (recorded between 2024 and 2025) will drop this October and the sprawling lead single "(A)RT" is a wondrous showing of their combined powers. Stretching out over the ten-minute mark, the track is a kraut-jazz odyssey that highlights their improvised style of immersive soundscapes that shift between electric and acoustic instruments with a heightened sense of ease. It's already been a hallmark year for drummer Booker Stardrum who has released a solo album, a collab with Even Shornstein, a record with another new group called Play Time, as well as a killer live recording with SML. Anyone already familiar with his work should know this is a must hear as he continues to ride his wave of modern jazz brilliance that shows no signs of shoring up any time soon.
