Last year, the duo known as Smerz released their excellent album Big city life and they're about to follow it up with a new EP ahead of an upcoming US tour. The first single from the EP is called "Spring summer" and it's another distilled, minimal pop jam that mixes in R&B beats which makes for a downtempo, but non-drowsy affair. It's a quick number and renascent of other contemporary artists like Tirzah or Erika de Casier who bring out the noir-pop tones over slow burning beats. There's a synth line that runs atop a steady hi-hat and snare rhythm that locks in the songs tight groove which ends just as you're getting settled in.
Easy is out May 15.
