Crafting up walls of percolating, ambient, and swirling saxophone chords immediately sends Cole Pulice's sets into a state of euphoria. To be in attendance as they set the course adrift is to experience something of total free fall and all out audio bliss. Blown-out clouds of divine, affirming, and rapturous swells of glorious saxophone swarmed the room of Public Records as Cole Pulice and an accompanying guitar player conjured up heavenly sounds of heady, euphoric ambient jazz that hovered over a crowd that was split between swaying to the amorphous grooves or sitting and letting the lush sounds wash over in forms or pure, unbothered grace. Things started suddenly as wafts of warm sounds began to blanket the room, rising from the stage as Pulice used their feet to manipulate pedals which began to stretch and warp the elastic sounds of their saxophone while the guitar work added more nimble and rusted textures to these soothing sounds. Building these digital soundscapes out of synthesized samples of their saxophone was a sight to see as Pulice swapped their main instrument briefly for other electronic woodwinds that brought things closer to a state of ecstasy as these waves of sound began to grow and overtake the room. Like watching jazz unfold in slow motion, watching these songs take shape and come to life was a blissful thing to experience and the sensory overload of these majestic, moving, magnificent pieces was enthralling to say the least, each moment felt expansive and wonderfully control, the ability to harness such sound and morph in into something so dazzling and complex was spellbinding. For the final piece, Pulice transported us with a shimmering rendition of "After the Rain," a song that felt emboldened with magic and superpowers that appeared to be both healing and life affirming all at once. Tremelo'd guitar licks hit like the mist of a rainforest, a soft glow emerging from the ether as Pulice's horn entered the mix with more of the beguiling spirit that has confirmed the track's place as one of their best compositions and a defining statement that ensures their spot as one of ambient jazz's most compelling artists. A bold and beautiful performance, it was enough to transcend time and space, briefly taking you out of the moment and into a state of all out joy. Such a serene and special show full of ecstatic ambient wonder and rich with emotions, it was nothing short of spectacular.
