Doechii played MGM Music Hall (Boston)

Doechii's Live from the Swamp Tour brought her to Boston for the first time and the crowd was ready to eat it up!

It's been an incredible year for Doechii. In August of last year, she dropped her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal and it set her on the path for an epic run that led to a nomination for Best New Artist at the Grammys and a win for Best Rap Album of the year. In the 14 months since, she's exploded in popularity and she's now on her biggest and boldest tour yet to show the world what she can do. The back-to-school vibes were apparent throughout the night and her giant boombox stage set-up gave her a ton of room to show off her style, moves, and energy. She entered the stage on a school desk and immediately started running through lessons while instantly showing off her uncanny flow. From atop her desk she danced and moved with vivacious rhythm and made sure we all were aware of her array of talents from the moment she stepped onstage. While her backing track did provide support, she made sure to own each and every moment as she rapped hard and fast, but also made sure to bust moves at every possible chance. She put in the work and there wasn't a single second where she seemed to be standing still. Of course the crowd was ready to also show their love and spit back every word also in rapid fire display, her lyrical flow not too much for the fans to try and imitate, but it was clear why she was the one on the stage for the night. Moving from the stage floor to the top of her boombox, she was backed by her dancers who also made sure that each song was fully enhanced and her DJ was the best hype woman to make sure Doechii was being pushed to the max, but also worked to control the crowd as well, her call and response queues doing the work while Doechii was off stage. There was a lot of downtime between songs, Doechii disappearing off stage for clips at a time, but always returned in a timely fashion even if the transitions did feel a little awkward. There weren't elaborate costume changes or set movements and things did run relatively tight, but given the rather short discography, it felt like the show was being stretched a tad to make up for that and give the show a proper run time. However, when she was on stage, she was working and the crowd couldn't have loved her more. Hits like "NISSAN ALTIMA" and "Alter Ego" were loads of fun and her recent, Gotye sampling, smash "Anxiety" gave the crowd life. Breaking things down a bit, "BOOM BAP" was another juicy highlight. Of course when she got to the end of the night, "DENIAL IS A RIVER" was the smash sensation everyone wanted and her rhythm with her DJ doing the backing vocal was top-tier and when they got the breathing exercises portion of the song, the crowd was fully committed. Transitioning that into her verse from Tyler, the Creator's "Balloon" was another show-stopping moment. For the encore, she ran things back and tested the crowd's knowledge of her deep cuts (everyone passed with flying colors) and she seemed elated to be at this point in her career. After years of hard work, Doechii has arrived as the moment and she's proving herself night in and night out.
