Courtney Barnett - "Rae Street"

Courtney Barnett has announced her third album, Things Take Time, Take Time, and shared the lead single, "Rae Street."

After retuning to Australia to ride out the pandemic, Barnett spent her time between Sydney and Melbourne hard at work on her follow-up to 2018's Tell Me How You Really Feel. The result comes to fruition this fall with her third solo record and in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Barnett calls the album her attempt to find “some sort of joy and gratitude, out of some sort of pain and sadness.” In addition to announcing the new record, Barnett has also shared the album's lead single and opening track "Rae Street." It's a jangle folk/pop tune that strays from the heavier side of her work and eases us back into the action. There's a steady build to this one and Barnett lays everyone out for us to experience together. "In the morning, I'm slow" she croons at the start of the track and quickly sets the expectation for the steady ballad ahead. There's a solid groove here and a gentle, breezy chorus that beams with a subtle pleasure. "And there’s one thing I know; the sun will rise today and tomorrow. We got a long, long way to go" she sings as she captures a feeling that is all too familiar these days. A temperate and chill number, perfect for a summer sunset or settling moment as we ease back into regular life.

Things Take Time, Take Time is out November 12 via Mom + Pop.
