Earlier this week, Big Red Machine announced their new album and have now shared three new singles. The latest features Taylor Swift.
Following their success together on both of Swift's albums last year, Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner, together known as Big Red Machine, have now shared yet another collaboration with Taylor. This time it will be included on their own album, the follow-up to their 2018 debut, but Taylor is really the star on this track. Following the similar trajectory of sounds explored on Folklore and Evermore, "Renegade" further solidifies their strengths as a collective. There are elements that channel the Postal Service and the War on Drugs, with Vernon's delicate croon weaved under Swift's forceful vocals, but there is no doubt that Dessner and Vernon have sharpened their skills beyond compare into a powerful songwriting machine. It's a light track that feels homespun, but with the help of laser-focused production. At this moment, Swift feels more unstoppable than ever and on "Renegade" she continues to bring her best work partners with her.
