The post-rock band Pullman hasn't been active in a long time, but next month, the band will return with a new album entitled III, which marks their first record in over two decades. After sharing the first single "Weightless" back in October, the group has now shared "Kabul," another instrumental track that furthers their reach across the sonic spectrum. A humming banjo riff starts things off strong and before you know it there's a rush of swirling strings and some steady percussion that keeps the song in check. It's another prime example of how instruments traditionally used to make "rock music" can verge off into new territory for something instantly inspiring. Ken "Bundy K" Brown (also of the band Tortoise) shared: "Kabul. Dig deep. Banjo nod to the East. Throw it in the mail and into Bundy's blender. Back to the boys and out into the ether. Boiling weeds for soup ain’t no way to live." You can ruminate on that and listen to the new tune while awaiting the full album to be released in just a few weeks.
III is out January 9.
