Play Time - "Open the Door, Joey"

The trio of Booker Stardrum, Will Epstein, and Ben Vida make music together under the name Play Time and today they announced their debut album, Magic Object.

Originally finding their footing by playing a residency together at esteemed Kingston, NY venue Tubby's, the musical trio of Booker Stardrum (drums), Will Epstein (saxophone), and Ben Vida (synths) have given themselves the name Play Time and announced their debut full-length will be arriving this summer via the label Balmat. Our first preview of the record, is the track "Open the Door, Joey" and it's a groovy tune that winds its way through jazzy jams of ambling melodies and free-flowing rhythms. The drums move the song forward while the synth and saxophone drone on, meandering through the song at a blissful pace, letting their creative juices flow in real time as they discover their sound while the song takes shape. "You're hearing us discover the voice of the band in real time," Vida says. "We finished those sessions and we were like, 'Oh, that’s what our band sounds like now.'" The result here is the product of the trio jamming together for hours on end and letting their improvised sessions lay the groundwork for the record.

Magic Object is out July 3.
