EPs of 2023

Presenting: The Best EPs of 2023 featuring crushed, Jlin, Shabazz Palaces, Toro y Moi, Peel Dream Magazine, Dawn Richard, Ice Spice, Beach House, and more!

The extended play is often an overlooked musical format each year, but can often contain some of the best songs and serve as major shifts in an artist's career, many times as the bridge from one sound to another. It can often be the introduction to a career and the launching point for some before their full-length ushers in a fully realized sound. As was the case with full-length albums this year, EPs made-up some of the best releases and everything on this list is worth the quick listen. Shoegaze once again made an impact here as did highlights from hip-hop, post-rock, dance-punk, and dream-pop. There's even a mini-album and a short soundtrack that I included because it made the most sense amongst these shorter releases, but could probably hold their own with full-lengths as well. From one of the breakout artists of the year to some lesser-known rising sensations, these are all solid outputs well worth their quick run-times.
