Widowspeak - "If You Change"

Widowspeak have announced their seventh full-length album and shared the lead single, "If You Change."

It's been four years since the last studio album from Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas, the duo better known as Widowspeak. Since then, they got married and had a baby, but the duo aren't putting a pause on their musical life as they embrace parenthood. Today the band announced their seventh album, Roses, will be out in June and they shared the lead single, "If You Change," along with the news of the new record. The track digs deeper into their full-blown swing towards '90s-inspired alt-country with swirls of twang that kick up lots of dust while Hamilton's dreamy vocals still add that miraculous charm. The steely guitar licks hit with that golden hour vibe that gives it an almost timeless quality, an instant classic, that sounds like it's been soundtracking rodeo flashbacks and montages for years. It's rusted Americana that unfurls with an unvarnished beauty. Dream-pop elements are still a vital part of the band's sound, but this one certainly gets a lot louder than a lot of their earlier work and Thomas' guitar sounds more muscular than ever as he digs in and lets it rip on a wicked solo. When talking about the track, Hamilton said: the "thought about the fear of change, and when things (situations, objects) feel stuck in time because of a fear of ruining them. You always hear 'mint condition' as though it is as an asset, but it also means that thing hasn't been used, lived with, loved. It never gets to fulfill its destiny."

Roses is out June 5.
