Broken Social Scene - "Not Around Anymore"

The Canadian institution Broken Social Scene have announced their first album since 2017 and shared the lead single, "Not Around Anymore."

It's been nearly a decade since the last album from the long-running Canadian collective Broken Social Scene released their last studio album, 2017's Hug of Thunder, but that will change in May when they release their new record Remember the Humans. Along with the announcement of a new album and a subsequent tour with fellow Canadian and related bands Metric and Stars, the band shared their chilled-out new song "Not Around Anymore." It's a classic sounding tune from the band, one that doesn't go for their more epic post-rock moments, but more of a subdued and down to Earth track rich with textures, bleary horns, and dreamy vocals that feels like a matured return. When talking about the new album, members of the band shared the following: "There's a different kind of honesty in this record," Charles Spearin says. "We've had success, we've lost friends, we've lost parents, we're at this 'what happens next?' stage in life." Kevin Drew added, "In 2026, you're going to see a lot of resurgence of people going back to the roots of who they are, because things in their lifetime have gotten quite lost. I think we've let each other down, and I think it's art that always tries to prevail, and tries to get us back on track."

Remember the Humans is out on May 8.
