Danielle Ponder - "God of You"

Danielle Ponder's new album, Everything Has Changed, is out in October and today she shared the new single, "God of You."

I first learned of Danielle Ponder when I randomly caught her as the opening act before a killer line-up of L'Rain, Makaya McCraven, and Sons of Kemet in Central Park. Immediately, I was enraptured by her esteemed vocal powers and was shocked when she didn't suddenly become a rising star after her record Some of Us Are Brave dropped the following September. In the years since, Ponder has been sadly absent from the musical world, something she noted herself when she announced her new album. Recorded after a life-changing trip to Dakar, Senegal and after some personal reflection and loss, Ponder has returned, her voice as moving as ever, and now she's signed to Phoebe Bridgers' recording imprint Dead Oceans. "God of You" finds Ponder back in her wheelhouse, her gospel rasp giving the song its tenderness and real, personal feel as she describes a relationship in which she gave her all and idolized a person who did not return the love back to her. It's a deeply personal track and it's probable that this is just a part of the healing process Ponder underwent after her debut. We're lucky she's willing to share it with us.

Everything Has Changed is out October 9.
