Squarepusher - "K7 Museum"

Tom Jenkinson, best known as the electronic mastermind Squarepusher has a new album due next month and has shared the second single, "K7 Museum."

Most of Squarepusher's discography could probably be categorized as drum n bass meets IDM, but the electronic pioneer and visionary isn't always easy to pin down to one specific genre. For his new album, Kammerkonzert, he's making a foray into orchestral-based electronic music and his latest single, is a frenetic example of just how he's continuing to push boundaries. Starting things off with a lot of '70s-inspired funk, things really pick up and jettison into his combustive spirit that finds the track mutating at the speed of sound, morphing and twisting into surprising new elements while still maintaining the funky expressiveness. Retaining a bit more of an approachable vibe than you might expect, this is still some progressive electronic music even if it might not be the kind that gets you grooving on a dance floor. For decades Jenkinson has been at the forefront of electronic music and this is just another example of his ability to craft compelling jams that never sound like they could be made by anyone else.

Kammerkonzert is out April 10.
